Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a condition of the eye in which irreversible damage occurs to the field of vision due to raised Intraocular pressure.
Intraocular pressure can be measured by Tonometry. Everyone above the age of 40yrs should get his or her eye pressure measured at least once in a year. Visual fields are checked by Perimetry.
Glaucoma is mainly of two types:
- Open angle and Narrow angle Glaucoma
- which can be differentiated by Gonioscopy.
Glaucoma is usually managed by intra-ocular pressure lowering drugs.
Yag-laser iridotomy is done in Narrow angle glaucoma.
Trabeculectomy ( surgery) is usually performed in cases in which pressure cannot be controlled by multiple drugs.
